This really came as a surprising finale for most of the viewers. Kris Allen won the title, the ever humble, underdog, boy next-door Kris. While I was halfway the show and watching it on my tv set, I was reading the news on my iPhone in between commercials and I already saw the news headlines from Fox and ABC News that Kris won— so it wasn’t as surprising any more. I’m not sure how many of you saw it but Kris even asked Ryan “Are you serious? Are you friggin’ serious?” Like he could not believe his ears were hearing it that he is actually the winner of the season finale. He stammered and he can’t believe he won. Paula was interviewed after the show and she said,”After the third one leaves, you wonder where do the votes go from that third contestant.” Maybe many of you also believe that a large number of Danny Gokey fans turned and voted for Kris after Danny was eliminated from the show.
This finale is the mother of all AI finales. It is the grandest ever, the best that I have seen. I’ve watched the show during their second season (I missed the first one), it was Ruben Studdard who won at that time although I voted for Clay Aiken. Since then I have been a big fan of the show. With 100 million votes, this is definitely the biggest show of all seasons. And this finale, it was star-studded, Fergie and the Black-Eyed Peas, Queen Latifah, Lionel Richie (his duet with Danny Gokey was one of the best), Keith Urban who sang with Kris, David Cook, KISS, Cindy Lauper, Rod Steward and my favorite of all, Carlos Santana. And not to forget, the last members of Queen in which Adam and Kris delivered their last performance of the night, “We Are the Champions.”
The other finalists joined the last remaining two with most of the performances. They all did great.
The shocker of the night I think was when Karla D., the newest judge, displayed her hot beach bod after singing a duet with Bikini Girl. She said later on that it was for charity and some people betted on this. Kara showed her what music is all about and put her in place. If you remember, this contestant, Katrina Darrell disrespected Kara Dioguardi during the auditions a few months ago. It was rehearsed and they were just acting for sure. It was obviously expected.
The addition of American Idol Golden Awards and giving the worst idol contestants trophies added humor to the show. I believe everything was scripted, it all looks like a slapstick comedy. It was a well-organized show and overall, highly entertaining. Two thumbs up.
Congratulations, Kris!
